Dr. Wolfgang Ritzdorf

10 February 1955 - 12 April 2023

What a very special privilege it is to walk some steps in our life with a giant. For that is how all in athletics coaching saw Wolfgang Ritzdorf.
Wolfgang was a truly great person, a deeply valued friend and both a ground breaker and world leader as a coach to athletes and to coaches across the Globe. He prepared athletes such as Ulrike Meyfarth and Heike Henkel personally to Olympic Gold and others through their coaches to mount the high jump podium at Olympic, World and World Junior, European and European Junior Championships and at other W.A. Area and National Championships too.

His masterpiece World Leading High Jump and Pole Vault Conference in Cologne influenced athlete performance and coach preparation again to podium level in Pole Vault at Olympic, World, European, other Area and National levels.

His leadership of the W.A. CECS Editorial Board and programme made coach development in athletics the cutting edge of International Federation Coach Education and Certification programmes.

Wolfgang was a tireless member of EACA council and supporter of IFAC. When asked to present or lead a jumps dedicated part of IFAC, he always accepted, no matter how many commitments he was already handling.
And all of this on top of his prestigeous position as Senior Lecturer and Head of the Athletics Department at the German Sport University Cologne. Whether as teacher, speaker or researcher in high jump, coaching and performance theory and practice his impact has been significant and substantial.

In his many article and papers in W.A. New studies in Athletics and other international journals, he set the benchmark of quality.
At any championships or games at any level in the world you will find coaches or athletes whose athletics career or indeed lives he has advantaged.

The immense strength of character of this great person saw him face this dreadful illness with unmatchable courage till the end.
When he closed his eyes for the last time, he must have reflected with real pride that in his life he changed the world of coaching in athletics not only for this generation, but for generations to come.

His life was our profound gain, his passing is our profound loss.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Doro and the family.

Thank you, Wolfgang, for the privilege of walking these steps with you.
EACA invites coaches and athletes to send their personal reflection of their experience of working with our friend and colleague.

“Mindful Coaching” Series Episode 2 with Laurent Meuwly and Paolo Camossi

The brand new EACA series “Mindful Coaching” aims to cover the world of coaching at 360° by interviewing coaches with different skills and experiences, also coming from other sports or other areas.

In the Episode 2 of of its first season, Jimson Lee hosts two European coahces: Laurent Meuwly and Paolo Camossi. At the recent European Indoor Championships they achieved great results, reaching the top in the 60 meters event, where Ajla Del Ponte and Marcell Jacobs won the gold medal for Switzerland and Italy, respectively.

In perfect harmony with the spirit of the “Mindful Coaching” Series, Jimson especially tries to spotlight their approach to coaching rather than talk about which technical exercises they adopt during the training sessions.

We added a new main menù item to access to EACA Series:

Starting from this episode, the series will be accessible for the EACA members only, no matter if Free, Premium or Pro members, so if you are not registered already, choose your membership level and sign up!

Let me reminds you that, in order to celebrate our President’s 80th birthday, for the whole current month of May the yearly Pro Membership is 50% discounted FOR LIFE, meaning that those who will become a yearly Pro member this month will pay half the price every year, not only at the sign up but forever.
To get the 50% discount apply the code FRANK80 during the sign up process.

As always, we hope that you’ll really enjoy this new content. But we are only at the beginning: lots of ideas in our mind will be effective soon!

“Mindful Coaching” Series

"Mindful Coaching" Series

With a view to offering more and more services to member coaches, the European Athletics Coaches Association today inaugurates a series created with the collaboration of Jimson Lee, the creator of the SpeedEndurance.com website.
Neither Jimson nor his website needs any introduction and the EACA is proud to have him on board: it will be a key element in the development of the Association.

This brand new series “Mindful Coaching” aims to cover the world of coaching at 360° by interviewing coaches with different skills and experiences, also coming from other sports or other areas.

The first episode of the first season sees the EACA President Frank Dick OBE as guest, right after his 80th birthday. This episode’s title will be “Five decades of coaching” but, obviously, it’s impossibile to cover five decades in one hour only so we are planning to see Frank as guest in some other episode.

The series will be weekly or bi-weekly and it begins with an episode available for everyone, even non-EACA members. However, starting from the next episode, the series will be accessible for the EACA members only, no matter if Free, Premium or Pro members.

At this regards, let me reminds you that, in order to celebrate our President’s 80th birthday, for the whole current month of May the yearly Pro Membership is 50% discounted FOR LIFE, meaning that those who will become a yearly Pro member this month will pay half the price every year, not only at the sign up.

Today our President turns…………..

Wait a minute!

For my personal safety, let me only say that the candles on the actual cake number way more than the three in the icon above and that they in themselves constitute a fire risk!

As a special offer, anyone that chooses now to sign up for the Pro Membership within the current month of May, 2021 and choosing the yearly subscription can get a 50% discount FOR LIFE on this annual subscription by applying the following discount code:
